Community Hub: Explore Drills from Top Coaches Around the World

Writer: Petra SeverPetra Sever

Coming up with fresh drills for every session is tough. So, there's two questions us at Sportreact get daily: "What’s that drill Coach X’s running?" and "How do I customise that setup?". The hustle is real. Athletes need variety to stay engaged, out of their comfort zone, and improving. Enter the Community Hub — a space for coaches and athletes to share, discover, and collaborate on drills.

What is Community Hub?

The Community Hub, as a part of paid Sportreact PLUS, is a workout and template sharing platform that allows coaches to run any custom Sportreact workout instantly, and share their custom setups with the community.

Build drills together!

The Sportreact device is known for its variety of standard tests and sport-specific templates, as well as the ability to perform many of the tests used in NBA, MLB, NFL and other tryouts. But its real strength lies in extensive drill customisation — you can combine timing feature (gates) with colors, arrows, numbers, letters, emojis, and more visual cues (pods) to build your own workouts.

In short, the Sportreact device:

  • Times sprints, standard tests like 5-10-5, Illinois drills, and more.

  • Works as reaction lights for simple reaction drills.

  • Performs complex cognitive drills that challenge athletes with math, memory, and other brain-boosters.

  • Runs reactive agility drills (use timing gates feature with lights, or perform COD tests with unexpected cues to guide athletes’ movement).

  • Lets athletes compete in challenge mode games.

To set up a custom drill, you’ll need to choose your gates and cues, pick their duration, order, and arrange everything on the field. It’s pretty simple once you get a hang of it (each setup can be saved for future use!), but we get it — those few minutes can make a big difference in a short 40-minute session.

How Community Hub Helps in Everyday Training:

1) Access a Library of Drills for All Sports

Many different coaches are using the Sportreact system - building setups and customising drills/tests for their specific sports and goals. In the Hub, you'll have the option to explore workouts these coaches decided to share, find drills that target specific skills in your sports, and access setups for various levels, from beginner to advanced players.

2) Save Time During Setup

Scroll through the explore page, choose the drill you want to run, and start it on the spot — it's that simple. Hub saves you setup time and allows you to focus on coaching.

3) Track, Evaluate and Compare Performance

Sportreact PLUS, aside from total time, tracks many important metrics like velocity, acceleration, power and force. It lets you also compare athlete's with team averages, best and worst performers, track trends and much more.

Use Custom Drills For Analytics:

x Compare your athletes’ results across different custom drills and track their progress over time.

4) Exchange Drills With Coaches All Over the World

Publishing drills to the Community Hub is simple and quick. You customise the setup, save it (or choose from your "Saved drills"), shoot a video that show's the performance, and click "Publish." Your drill will soon be available for coaches worldwide to see, use and share. It’s a great way to contribute and help everyone benefit from the customisation.

Cheating Arrow

Setup: Drill involves the athlete reacting to visual stimuli (green or red arrows) by shuffling laterally to the correct cone, passing through a low-level photo cell gate, and returning to the center for repetitions.

Here's the catch:

Green arrow: The athlete moves in the direction shown by the arrow.

Red arrow: The athlete moves in the opposite direction to the arrow.

Use for: Dawid says this drill enhances lateral agility, reaction time, and decision-making under pressure, making it ideal for sports requiring quick lateral movements.

Lateral Movement - Split Step to Cross

Setup: The athlete will step through the gate and perform a jump stop or a split step, reacting to the 2 front pods. One of the pods will activate and show either a right or left arrow

If right arrow, pod to the right #3 will light up for deactivtion

If left arrow, pod to the left #2 will light up for deactivation

The athlete will attempt to deactivate side pod in under 1s and recover back around the gate and repeat for 8 reps.

Use for: Nikola uses this drill when he wants to improve lateral acceleration and first step explosiveness (crossover step). Better rhythm, timing and positioning of split step for direction choice and power.

Four-Way Reactive Reach

Setup: A directional arrow appears on Light 0, pointing to one of the side lights (1, 2, 3, or 4).

Move quickly to the indicated light:

Lights 1 and 4 (above ground): Cover the device with your hand.

Lights 2 and 3 (on the floor): Cover the device with your foot.

Return to the center position at Light 0.

Repeat this 6 times, reacting to new arrows each time.

Use for: Dawid built this drill to improve reaction time, agility, and spatial awareness. He uses it to enhance cognitive focus, coordination, and decision-making under pressure.

Quick Hands Quick Feet

Setup: The athlete starts between gate pods 0-1 and pod 2, with pods spaced 5 feet apart. A green signal on the gate indicates readiness. The athlete deactivates pod 2 (blue), triggering a left or right arrow. They follow the arrow through gate 2 to pods 3-4-5 (spaced 2 feet apart) and deactivate one pod three times in sequence (blue, orange, green). Afterward, they return through gate 2, reactivating the blue signal on pod 2. The sequence repeats for 5 rounds.

Use for: Nolan wants his athletes to improve decision-making, agility, and acceleration under pressure, while also building stamina and focus. His drills are ideal for enhancing reactive sharpness and return-to-sport conditioning in hockey, soccer, and basketball. They’re also perfect for warm-ups or high-intensity intervals.

Pivot and Return

Setup: The athlete starts between the gate and #2 pod, facing the pod. The initial signal (blue square) is displayed on the #2 pod. After deactivation, the athlete moves backward through the gate (pods 0-1) located 5' behind pod #2. Upon passing through the gate, the #2 pod activates again, displaying a left or right arrow signal. The athlete pivots in the indicated direction, turns, and sprints forward to deactivate the signal (blue square) on the #3 or #4 pod which are located 15' behind and 15' from the centre of the gate. After deactivating, the athlete sprints back through the gate, deactivating the signal on pod #2 again. This sequence is repeated for a total of 5 reps.

Use for: This drill enhances reaction time and decisions, while developing agility, directional changes, and lower-body coordination for pivoting and sprinting.

Here they are! Performance coach Dawid shared how to set up the all-time favorite — "Cheating Arrow." High-performance hockey coach Nolan set up drills that improve pivoting and lower-body coordination. And with Nikola's wild agility drills, your athletes might need a GPS to keep up! Looks good? There's a bunch of creative setups waiting for you in the app – join the community and level up!
